Found this brass medallion close to an area where old copper and brass 6" spikes (some larger) started to appear. It's 49mm (just under 2") dia., approx 1.5mm (1/16") thick and weighs 18.7 grams. Treasure hunter Robert Marx, took a quick look at it recently after a talk he gave and thought it was old from the amount of corrosion but he'd never seen anything like it. I thought it may have something to do with surfing but haven't been able to match it. It looks like it was cast. The back side is flat and the front has a mild relief. Maybe of oriental origins? Thanks for the help.

Re: Shipwreck Medallion? Need help with ID

Yes, the picture should show up below your narrative. If you hit "preview" before you post then that will cause the message you are seeing. After you attach your picture hit "post" and see if that helps. If not then I am not sure what is going wrong. Good luck. HH.

Looks Oriental in design. If you are finding brass & copper spikes, it's possible it is a shipwreck. Seach for what the chinese used in ship construction. This seems to be a chain medallion/ ornament. Keep digging, especially in that area.
