Last week at an estate sale in an upper class neighborhood I found a jar in the dimly lit corner of the room where the husband kept his collection. It seemed quite old to me so naturally I was drawn to it. The husband and wife had separate collections. His comprised Jalisico pottery, pre columbian artifacts and old string instruments. Hers was over 1,000 rabbits of all sizes and materials. They were both psychotherapists who worked at an addiction rehab center.

When I got home I first thought the jar would make a nice decorative piece. However examining it in sunlight under the eroded glaze I could make out images. So now I have become obsessed with figuring out how old and where it was made.

Now, before I need a therapist, Does anyone have an idea of it's origin/value?

Having a hard time getting detailed pictures. I am going to have to get color filters for my digital slr. Until I do this is my best attempt so far.

What I have been able to infer and deduce is that it is an olive jar of European style with meso American Indian decoration. Due to the degradation of the surface it's hard to make out detail. My best guess now it dates from the time the Spanish introduced European pottery techniques and glazes to the area. I still have to measure the pottery thickness when I find my micrometer which might help in determining its age.

First image I believe is a Batimage.jpg

Second is a Man image.jpg

A closer pic of the entire storage jarimage.jpg

Awesome, simply awesome. Good luck on the ID, in the large photos especially, I can't make out anything.
