Hello All: I am trying to research a compass we recovered from an unidentified shipwreck in 7,400 feet of water. The compass is marked "D. Baker Co. - Boston and has a patent date of November 1864-June 1875." It also has a serial #. Does anyone have any information on this company, know if the company records still exist and where they might be found if they do?

Thanks in advance

Great work Darren. Galleon Hunter put the same question on SUBARCH and no one could figure it out!

Hey Pete:

This is not a TRESURENET vs. SUBARCH competition, so please don't make it one.

I'm merely casting as many lines as possible so to speak in hoping to find some answers.

Actually someone on SUBARCH DID email me.

Seems there was a David Baker listed as a "manufacturer of marine compasses" located at 317 Athens St. Boston in 1875. Not that that gives me a whole lot more to go one, but now my "D. Baker" has an entire name. Still, I mainly need to fiind out if the company records are still in existance.

Any help from anyone anywhere is greatly appreciated.

(p.s. thanks Darrin too, I'll call you later this afternoon)
