Found this at the site of an old foundation dating back to a house from the late 1700's early 1800's. The obverse(?) shows a 3 masted ship and on the reverse all i can see is possibly a circular wreath . It is about the size of a U.S. Large cent. I cleaned the coin up some to try and get some details to show for there was nothing at all showing when I first dug it. Any ideas??
Thanks

Dont get your hopes to high, but there are a couple of old coins in the red book with ships on them.
one is called Pitt Token. It is a 1766 farthing.
The other is 1778-1779 Rhode Island ship medal.

without being able to see better details on the ship and nothing on the other side i an not say for sure.

Teverly, thanks for that...I did see the R.I. ship medal in the redbook, however the masts on that coin look more vertical..the masts on the coin I found look like they are leaning aft somewhat and are not perfectly vertical.

Looks as if it might be one of the colonial Canadian "ship" halfpenny or penny trade tokens. Not many have wreath reverses, but here's an example. The "R H" monogram has been attributed to Montreal merchant Richard Hurd. Tokens of this design were struck in farthing, halfpenny, and penny sizes. The halfpenny is roughly the size of a U.S. large cent.

Looks to me like a match.

PBK...thanks for that, it looks like a match and would match teh time frame of the LC's and other tokens I;ve found at the site. I also thought before I cleaned it that I could see a monogram on the back, so I would say that is a match...thanks again!!!!

I went through my red book and came up with these
possabilities
But PBK's looks the closest to it

The wreath on the back is bigger than the first one
I'm just to slow on the draw I guess ???
