anyone here own any shinplaster currency? these were paper fractional currency that Lincoln started in 1862--1874 and were from 1 to 1ooo currency..lots of people bought stamps with them at the time being that stamps were easily traded!! Just came across them short time ago while reading about Lincoln. thanks!!

Flea market stuff usually, most of which are pretty common...higher grade/condition pieces with variations of signatures and amounts quite often can affect or increase value. Google will give you ideas on what you have, and its collectability.

that's cool! I think anything from that time period is hard to come by..will keep my eyes open for some in the future..Yea I know one can buy on EBay anything but theres no story. and that's what we like to be associated with our finds!

I also have a fractional currency note created by the Confederate States of America from South Carolina. It is dated 1862.
