These are from our first hunt on some private land near Shiloh battlefield. Is this just a cow tag? It seems to be brass.

The next time we got to hunt we found these. Not sure but I think that is a scabbard tip. Is the piece of iron possibly a pot holder? I got real excited finding that button barely buried, but knowing many reenactors camped there, I realized it had to be a reproduction. Others here helped me confirm that. Maybe we'll find the real thing soon.

We are looking forward to a lot more hunting in this land. Hope to post more soon. Thanks for any information anyone wishes to provide. I'm still relatively new to relic hunting and have a lot to learn.

Nice finds were is Shiloh located

I have a few items from Shiloh. Great area with much action. Yes it is a live stock tag.

Great finds and good luck in the future...

Shiloh is in south west Tennessee just across the border from Cornith Mississippi. As a suggestion, the south moved over a hundred thousand men from Corinth to Shiloh before the battle and then retreated the same way. I have to believe that entire area would hold artifacts. To learn more about such places, look into Shelby Foote's excellent three part history if the Civial war. Soldiers tend to dump weight when retreating.

Sweeeet finds!!!

Yes Shelby Foote speaks a lot in the Ken Burns film also. He's a great resource.

Top picture - brass oval is a cow tag...bullet looks like a .69 minie - need to measure....the percussion caps are fired but they don't really look period.

Bottom picture - top row left bullet appears to be .69 minie, right a .58...next row a musket ball or piece of canister shot on the left, right bullet appears to be a pistol bullet, I would guess confederate...try www.relicman.com to see if you can pick up a match...bottom left is a scabbard tip complete with finial....right iron piece does look like used for a tent...button looks like VA but need to see back to determine if period or reenactor
