Last weekend I found my first shield nickel. An 1867 w/rays and this weekend through the pouring rain I hunted for an hour and came up with my second shield nickel and as luck would have it it turned out to be an 1866 w/rays. So again this weekend another record was broken for me. My new oldest nickel. Thanks
For checkin out my post guys. Also I added a couple pic from my new display case I put together last night.

I like your coin, they are few and far between and your relic display is great!!! Good job.

Congrats on both your Shield nickels! Nice display case for your finds

did you do anything to see the date better i have one with no rays but can not get the date good finds and thanks

nice display! but be cautious, you're making a quick-access shelf for a robber. That whole display would be gone in 10 seconds. I was robbed previously, never keep anything in the open that you don't want to lose. Unfortunately that's the reality.

I just toothpick and do as little as possible to them in the field. I toothpick them once all surfaces are dry including dirt and any patina. Very gently rubbing the toothpick back and forth across the coin until the toothpick is rubbing the raised portions of the coin and then rubbing my finger with oil from my face (around my nose) gently across the coin until the raised areas I rubbed begin to darken and that brings out the details. This all came to me by incorporating some of buckleboyky's cleaning techniques with my own twist. They just happen to work pretty dang good on every nickel I've dug since I started trying. Check my last three threads I started all my nickels have been coming out looking great. Or far better than they used to
