sheild type decorative boss for horse tack --see the bent tabs --went thru leather and was bent up / down to hold it in place --one upward bent and one downward bent . upper one broke *off

It's hand made and the pictures not clearly showing that both bendable pcs broken off.

Any idea time period?

often called a "saddle sheild" --- they were quite common during the civil war time frame era .

the sheild shape is similar to that of a "saddle sheild" type of design but its too small thus its a " saddle sheild shaped" type of HORSE HARNESS BOSS --1820 THRU CIVIL WAR (ish) ERA TIME FRAME . :thumbsup: maybe I was not as exact in my wording as I should have been . -- as you can see if you go back a few post -- I called it a "boss" earlier was trying to get across it was "saddle sheild shaped"
