I was out detecting a bean field that is adjacent to a property where I was told was a Civil War Skirmish. I attempted to get permission on the skirmish site and when that fell through I decided to get permission and detect the surrounding properties. I was at the property to the East of the site and after about 2 hours of finding nothing but unknown iron pieces and some modern trash (very little) I got a good signal for a nickel. It wasn't very deep probably only an inch or so but when I picked it out of the dirt I could tell it was old.

I can't see the date on it yet, I plan on getting a product that is said to be able to restore dates on nickels. If and when I get the date I will let you know.

Here is the video of me digging it.

I have been cleaning my Shield Nickel in hopes of seeing the date. Here is an updated picture.
