I actually looked at this coin at a different light and saw the beginning of the date (the 18 part). I will soak it more in vinegar, but anyone is still welcome to give me different suggestion. I do know about Nic- A- Date, but don't want to use it on a shield nickel.
 

Got the date of it barely. It is a 1873 Open 3 variety. Not bad for 50 cents. :hello2:

Thank you for the advice, going to try it as my shield nickel is already sort of worthless ;D . Will update when it is finished.
