Went back to dig in our favorite creek. The highlight from today was the shield nickel. Looks like 1882. The dump this creek runs through is not that old so I guess someones shield nickel ended up in the trash somehow.
Other notables from today: 1935 Costa Rican 1 Colon, 1951 50 Francs, 1959 1 Centavo, Silver Rosie, 19 Wheats and a nice Leonard Bros. medallion. One unique find that I have never seen before was an "Insta Valve". Apparently it goes in the top of the old Nursmatic glass baby bottles. The other stuff was junk jewelry, melted pins, 20 memorials and a Jefferson nickel.
I have to admit that 1951 Franc almost got me. I thought I had my first gold coin. No foreign coin has ever come out of the creek shining like that. Everything is dull or toasty except real gold items but for some reason this 50 franc coin was shining like jewelry!
Also brought out about 18 lbs of scrap brass, copper and lead. I know I have described this creek in past posts but today I took a pic of the creek bed. It doesn't really do it justice but it might give you guys an idea of how concentrated the metal is.
