I found this buckle today at an 18th century home site. I'm wondering if it might be military (Rev War)-anybody have any info on these? Thanks

I have also dug several of those over the years. All came from early house sites. I don't think that anybody knows for certain as to what their use was. I think that they were used on horse bridles but can't prove it. I personally don't think that they are military but that's just my opinion. I wish that somebody could provide a positive I.D.

Thanks Tennessee. I did some research and found this at the web site of the UK Detector Finds Database:

Double Loop Shield-Shaped Buckle - UK Finds Database -

Almost identical to mine; this confirms that it was a harness buckle and likely made in England. The finds from the site where I found it range from early 1700s to early 1800s.

Excellent research on your part and thanks for the info. I always felt like they were used in some kind of horse tact but could never prove it. I do know that they are very old as I dug 2 in a site that was built in 1783 (pioneer fort site in Tennessee).
