Sheriff's Safety Badge

A friend of mine found this badge in a creek here in Southwest Georgia. I thought it could be an older AAA grade school Safety Patrol Badge but looking at the ones I found online, I found that they all have the AAA in the center. At the bottom of the badge it says; "Lowndes Co" - which is Valdosta Georgia. Any idea of what this is and even better, an approximate age?

Hello GaRebel, Your badge will likely date to the 1930's-1950's, and your assumption that it is a crossing guard badge is probably correct. Most deputy sheriff, auxiliary, posse, and special deputy badges will not have "safety" on them. That perforated type of "saddle blanket" fastener that holds the safety pin to the back of the badge was used extensively by the "LA Stamp & Staty Co" (Los Angeles Stamp and Stationery Company) during the 1930's-1950's. Use a magnifying glass to see if that is actually stamped on the fastener. Congrats because finding any type of real badge is very rare! Sub 8-)

I'm guessing it was a badge the sheriff gave to the Barney Fife's wannabes.
Kind of like a Correctional officers badge:laughing7:never mind, I think theirs are plastic. All jokes aside neat find GaRebel!
