Shepherd bill seeks to ease rules for small suction dredges

Thanks for posting this 2c. We need all the help we can get here in Id.

Glad to see a bill that PROMOTES dredging, rather than outlawing it.
Email and snail mail all legislatures regardless of where you're from...if this bill passes, you may be coming to Idaho to do your dredging !

If I could talk momma into it we'd be moving there to do our living, not just our dredging. We didn't get out before the grandkids started coming, now it's too late. IMHO Idaho is the last great state in the lower 48.

Idaho is an incredibly beautiful state although I have only seen it through pictures and video's.

I think this is awesome, perhaps when (Lets not say "if") this bill passes, perhaps other states will take notice.

don't thank me, Kudos to Fullpan
but we do need to support
Rep. Paul Shepherd, just a simple thank you for supporting, my family looks forward to the summer months, camping, hiking, helping the environment, removing trash, cleaning and removing toxins with our suction dredge, and it helps put beans on the table, ya all get the drift
the more letters/e-mails this guy gets the more likely other reps will step up to the plateconstituent

I would strongly recommend Rep Shepard be given a tool that may insure that the House accept the legislation. While Rep Shepard failed to get a previous bill passed banning the EPA from Idaho there is a specific tool that can insure that the EPA conduct themselves according to the will of the State Legislature. I posted that tool on another thread. The tool is Coordination. Someone with a connection to Rep. Shepard should convey the msg.

"Under the proposal by Rep. Paul Shepherd, R-Riggins the House Resources and Conservation Committee introduced legislation Tuesday that would require the state to adopt new rules protecting small-scale dredge mining and maintaining stream access in historic mining districts."

Putting the EPA in a position of abiding by the will of Idaho has great merit. Coordination is a major factor that should be considered; especially if the bill fails to pass the house..... Plus Idaho has the expert to help convey the coordination concept. (as seen in the Vid)

Full pans and Bejay ,thank you both. As far as this being a beautiful state, pictures do not do it justice!

I have hunted northern Idaho's high country often and no doubt understand the beauty in that State. Oregon and Washington have beauty as well but our political climate is a sad cry shy of Idaho's.

As a vet, I've seen many places in my life time but a State that holds such beauty AND gold, well that's the place for me. Hence, that is why I reside in the back country of Idaho. "A piece of God's country with a mini-twist of the Alaska frontier."

On the subject of Paul Shepherd:

For those that don't know much about Paul Shepherd, he is a miner himself and is the voice of the people. I have had the privilege to speak to this fine gent on numerous occasions but I recall the first time I met him was when he showed up at our steelhead "fish camp." I had just done some gold pan sampling along the banks of the Clearwater (steelhead fishing & gold panning go hand & hand in my little world) when I was approached by a stranger who took great interest in my findings. At the time, I was completely unaware as to who Paul Shepherd was and just accepted this man for what I saw in him, a "down to earth" common guy. We continued conversing throughout the next hour on the subject of mining. Surprisingly, he was well versed on the subject and had done some placer work himself. It wasn't until hours later that someone from camp informed me as to his name and his relationship to politics. Talk about being mystified. Prior to this encounter, I had believed our place with politicians was in "Area 51" - pretty much alienated us miners. However since that day, Mr. Shepherd had convinced me otherwise and has been a strong supporter of the mining industry. I believe in this bill (as he does) and urge all those interested in mining to email and/or call the Idaho State Legislature. Kudos to 2cmorau for passing on this valuable information.
