Its limestone that filled the inside of a bivalve (clam)
What you're seeing is the impression of the inside.
(Fossil impression)

Thanks Gator, I don't know, don't think its limestone, that's just my opinion, its some type of thick shell, it came from a Indian shell pile on a river bank. It came from the Indian shell layers, you know how you can see the layers, most stuff on those layers were brought there. Looks like some type of non drilled Gorget. Strange thing it is, sparkles in the light. I'm going to run some tests that have been suggested. Thanks Justintime

Its sparkles in the light because there are tiny calcite crystals in it.
I've seen thousands of these things.
If you would rather think it's a gorget be my guest.
I've kept a few over the years.. I'll post a couple later.

Kool, thanks gator, would love to see them.. Justintime

Gator, you know I am the biggest skeptic on this site, hence my user name for killing people pieces. But that sure looks like a preform for a Shell Gorget to me. I have seen a couple come from my area that look very similar in size, shape, and banding of the material. You may be correct, but I have a feeling that one my be a legit piece.

There is no concave portion of what would be the back of the shell.
And what would be ridges on the exterior of a shell are concave..."negative impressions"
What portion of a shell do you think that would be Reap.?
I see a certain uniformity to some edges Maybe they were using it to make a gorget?... I still think its the negative impression of the interior of a shell.

What kind of shell would be that thick, and its not brittle like some old shell material. Like when you touch it,there's no white dust, special polishing job, was applied, weird layers, and grains, like shell. I would love to see some shell examples, that are similar, if anyone knows of any. Thanks Justintime
