It is not often that I find a new shell casing (pre 1900s) I have not found before and even more rare that I can not identify it. I found this yesterday in a southwest mining town and I cant ID it any help is most appreciated. It is a rimfire Cartridge with a duel strike , it measures 1.536" long, .624" base and .46 " neck (the neck is a little off round so this is appx.)

Thanks for the input but its not a 44 Henry , I have found a ton of those , they show up at most sites I detect in the late 1800s time frame. It may be from some type of Henry rifle though as I know they were the main company if not the only one using a double firing pin.

Thanks Tedyoh, I think that is it, the dimensions are pretty close , I actually looked at that but confused the rim diameter and base diameter which I did in my post here too , it is the Rim diameter that is .624 not the base . Do you know if that rifle has the double firing pin?

Yes it does, and the cartridges made in Switzerland have a + symbol on the bottom of the case
