It's obviously a button, about the size of a penny. The problem lies in that I can't find out anything about the manufacturer to date it? It's not flat it's slightly concave, possibly made in Albany?

You may be correct, but my best efforts do not fully convince me that it says Slingerland. Any way to get a cleaned up, clear picture? I’m struggling with several letters. Here it is cleaned up more, zoomed and some adjustments that bring the letters out on slingerlandYou may be correct, but my best efforts do not fully convince me that it says Slingerland. Any way to get a cleaned up, clear picture? I’m struggling with several letters. Thanks
Ok cool and thanksWelcome to Tnet.
I think I can see what you see as the name… and also perhaps ‘ALBANY’ in the inner ring.
This may or may not be relevant, but Gaylor Charles Sheldon (1799-1875) married Sarah Marie Slingerland (1804-1823) and they were resident in Albany, NY. They seem to have had one son: Alexander (1823-1886).
I’m not going to do all the work for you (LOL) but you can access Albany directories by year from 1813 onwards at the link below. After accessing each directory for the likely years when the company might have been in operation, if you type “slingerland” in the search box, you can check if it has any references to a company including that name. This might well be a supplier of woollen/cotton goods, a clothing manufacturer or a tailoring company rather than a button manufacturer.
