I (detecting alone) only had a short 2 hrs 45 minute window to continue my hunt in this grass field. I started gridding on the edge closest to the road & worked my way towards the middle where I had started last week. I was plagued with trash & loads of ring pulls which slowed me up a little, however I had a surprise result:

Oxen Shoe
£0.10p
VIKO (Made in USA) Comb - someone thought enough about it, to cut their name in it!
Gold Plated Decor (made me thing for a second):laughing7:
Large circa 14th C Horse Harness Pendant :headbang: This opens the possibilities a little wider than I expected, although I think its a freak for this land.

I'm pretty sure this field has never been ploughed. Its on a slope with masses of earthworks on the top section (not yet done) & areas of rubble close to the surface. It also has a Georgian rubbish pit in the centre which the rabbits have dug up & this would have spread more, if it were ever plough etc...

The moving of some top soil may have brought this closer to the top, as it was in a different coloured clay layer & the darker top soil was shallow in that spot.

I wish we had more pasture here. Not easy to dig, but the condition is way better there.

This ground is easy to dig, as its mostly water, the water table is at about 3inches in some spots. When I stamp the turf back in its like floating on a marsh. (we also have very little pasture options)

Fine job out there, Crusader. That pendant is interesting. :icon_thumleft:

Crusader,
That is quite a spread of items meaning they are very different indicating the land may have had many uses. The aluminum comb is likely early 1900's so maybe and maybe not WWI related, a thimble indicating home sewing, an oxen shoe so possible farming, I'd guess more modern coins and the 14th century horse harness pendant. Looks like a piece of ground with many uses over many centuries. My mind wants to spin all sorts of possible stories of what has happened there, good hunting and thank you for sharing..........63bkpkr

is a good medieval field recently Contaminated ... Good find and happy new year !

My spots in Wyoming have all been cow pasture. Nice to know the plough never hit any relics. Nice job as always Cru!!

Your methodical hunting of sites has always paid off, and I'm just waiting on an awesome find to come out of this field.

I always enjoy your finds. I just don't find enough "good" finds lately. I really only need one to keep me interested though, I AM hooked. :)

I'm wondering though, do you discriminate at all? Even lightly. Or do you just dig everything?

Keep up the good work!

HH!

I don't use Disc (it effects depth & I don't trust any machine to get it spot on, plus you miss whats going on under your coil), I use my ears & depending on the site & amount of signals & the depth they are coming from, I change my style. ie. 5 nails per swing - I cherry pick, 1 nail every 10 metres I dig it all. Generally I dig as many signals as I can whilst covering the most area. In ploughed land, I can also come back for years & mop up the rest. In pasture, I generally only hit it once, or twice with a bigger coil if its worth the time.

Weren't thimbles used to save the ends of fingers during field work/harvest? You always amaze me with your finds cru.

thats amazing! great save!

Lovely horse pendant, hopefully not a freak, hopefully the beginning of a plentiful field!! Happy new year!

Yes they were, but this field was never harvested & only about 100 metres from the current villiage.

I love seeing stuff like this. I love seeing how people are like OMG look what I found and that there are still real life people that actually give "atta-boys." It's so rare nowadays for people to appreciate other's good fortunes.
Absolutely fantastic job Sir, you should be real proud. From the sounds of things you have done your research, done the time, and now the sweat is paying off. Keep up the good work and HH!!!!
