I just went to a yard sale in at 4:00. The Lady had jewelry, tried to buy the whole thing. Nope, she wouldn't. I pulled out a pair of sterling and gold earrings. She said I was looking at them like I knew what I was doing so she wasn't going to sell me anymore.... She took away and put it all inside. It had a lot of good stuff too. She probably taking it to a pawn shop. I did buy the ones I picked out for $1 each.

The pearls are 14k studs. I had $300 on me So i was willing to pay if it came to that. But she told me it was all junk at first. Bummer!

I think he is upset with the fact it was for sale, she decided to put it out for sale at her prices and then some one was willing to buy it, all of it. Taken advantage of? Nope. She priced it and then backed out when somebody actually wanted to buy it.

Dealt with a guy selling a convertible years ago, he advertised, I answered the ad, he even took me for a test drive. Agreed to his price, then I left to go get the money. Came back shortly, it was no longer for sale. People are just that way sometime.

HI BOB!

Nhbandit do you give every thing you find metal detecing to the property owner? if not that is the same way of taken advantage that beachkid was doing.

You should go to sales in dressed in shabby clothing , hair messed up , like an eccentric bag lady .

I do good when I don't shave for a few days - and I wear tattered clothing . And my truck is rusty.

We don't know all the details of what happened. We don't know if the woman had each item priced invidually and the offer that Beachkid made was equal to the total of all the combined prices or if it was simply a lowball offer that offended the woman. Maybe an older grandma type who hadn't really taken the time she should have when looking the items over prior to putting them out for sale. Whatever happened she realized that she may had made a mistake and she changed her mind BEFORE making a deal. I don't get why you guys think she is obligated to bend over & take it when no deal has been agreed on. In any event I gave Beachkid the benefit of the doubt when I said he "seems" upset. I didn't call him a thief or chastise him for trying to rip off grandma. I simply commented on the impression I got from his post.

Bill that's a ridiculous comparison. And the answer to your question depends on what any prior agreement might be. If I have an agreement for example to split the finds 50/50 and I purposely hide some things from him then I am a thief. If you disagree then so be it...

Alright before I started looking through the stuff she told me everything was a dollar apiece. The ones I did buy had she taken them into pawnshop she would've gotten any more for them anyway. There tiny. I also told her I would weigh them out and tell them how much they were worth that she had anymore. But she turned into nasty Sally and ran off with them all ticked off. I could not have been the only person to look through their jewelry at 4 o'clock in the afternoon. And she had trays of it too. So was I trying to rip her off no. She told me ahead of time what the prices were. If she said they were $25 apiece I would've looked at them the same way as if they were a dollar apiece. I was just surprised that's all. I would've paid more. If there was something worth it and She worked with me. Not a big deal, If she puts it out tomorrow someone else will buy it anyways.

I'm fat does that count?

You should go back and read what he wrote once more. You seem to be reading some thing into it that is not there.Just so you know I went back and read it again to see if I had and I am glad to say I did not this time. And who could disagree with your last statment ? but from what I have noticed in life the one that wants to bring up words like thief in some thing like this I would not have any kind of agreement with. If it hurts your feelings that is not the way I ment it,It is hard as we all know to get our thoughts across the way I meen them.we all have that problem for the most part.

I am not in any way calling you a thief so you know. But we see all the time some one wanting to see some one getting taken advantage of when garge selling. It just does not happen, you put up a sale people like to haggle it is not takening advantage. I do not care how old the person is,I am old for god sakes so I know. And I would take offense if some one tried to tell me I was to old to put a price on some thing that belongs to me.

Yep. If you put it up for sale you should be sure. If you want a comparison her pulling it back is more like backing out of a bet, and maybe saying we didn't shake on it!

So you have a Red 67 Corvette with a brown interior listed on craigslist for $10,000. You have people looking at it but no money has changed hands, no deposit, no contract, nada, ZERO commitment so far. You discover that it is possibly the only Red with a Brown interior Corvette built that year and is possibly worth 10 times what you were asking. You don't have the right to pull the ad ? I do agree completely that the seller should have done her homework better but any judge in any court in the world will tell you that without a contract or an exchange of money there is no "deal".

So if the money had changed hands for the car the buyer would have been taking advantage of the seller?

No one suggested this was a legal matter, just an ethical one.

i understand where your coming from. Theres been a few times i get excited and try my best to show it. But never had anyone take it back before i could pay lol. Every seller and buyer has the right to stop the deal. But if you dont know what your selling then you take what you get simple as that. i buy on penny auctions sites and you get alot of people puling auctions or not showing up to give you what you won because of the price. Thats life, its very easy to research something anymore.

you know i used to worry about how much i paid for something at yard sales and such but no longer care because alot of times they just want to get rid of the stuff so they can sell the house or whatever, alot of times i do not know what it is worth till i take the time and look it up i just knew it was made well or knew what it was made of.so if someone wants to sell something for one dollar ill buy it,if not the next person will.

Nope. Different situation. Then it's too bad, so sad, shame on the seller for not doing their homework. I was simply responding to the comments that she was obligated to go through with a deal that wasn't made yet. I agree it sucks. I'd even be bummed myself if I was the buyer especially if he offered to buy them all for $1 each which is the price she set. I haven't seen him say that but maybe that's the case. Or maybe he offered a lower price if he took the lot. In principle it dosn't matter but it might change how I feel about it.

That's the first time I've had it happen that they took something away though. Even at a $1 each, who wouldn't look over whatever it is they are buying no Matter if it is jewelry, toys, whatever. If I'm spending a dollar and a yard sale if I'm spending $200 of the jewelry store I'm still looking the thing over before I buy it. For someone to get freaked out over a dollar a pair or a dollar piece of jewelry I thought was just strange. For her to think well this guys really looking at this stuff maybe I have something good here!?! But either way I'm look at it I don't want to spend a dollar on something thats missing stones or missing apart or broken. That right there's a waste of money! I hate when I spent a dollar on something and have to throw it away. Normally I try to buy the whole jewelry box. Reason being I don't want to look at it all right there. I want to take it home and do it later when I have time. Buy it and get on to the next one. I didn't try to talk her down. She said a dollar I said sounds good! Not going to worry about it anymore though. There'll be more probably tomorrow And every month after that.

Only different because in one case the money changed hands, but on the post above it never got that far. If both buyers see a good deal how does one take advantage and the other not? This sounds like the Pawn double standard.... a Pawn store owner makes a good deal and is a crook, but if one of us does it it's a great score, at least that's usually how it's looked at. Many people will make that judgement even before knowing any of the facts.

It's like saying a woman asks you out, gets you drunk, takes you home with her... and then someone says you took advantage!
