I wonder too if the poor woman ever fell victim to stupid relatives, (children, siblings,
husband etc.) who cashed in her dimes to buy something stupid with them, while telling her afterwards: " I'm was going to pay you back!! ( with worthless paper money of course) Happened to one of my cousins who had been saving coins for years & some other guy I know.

Back then, for a dime, you could:
Take your girl to the picture
And get 2 large sarsaparillas
And a large bucket of popcorn
On the way home you could take her to a restaurant for a fine spaghetti dinner with a bottle of red wine.
After a generous tip for the waiter, you still had just enough to buy a high-mileage Oldsmobile.
At least that’s what I was always told.😆
