I'm sure it makes a beep sound when it goes over something metal... but from the limited research I've just done, I can't find much good to say about it.

I'd rather spend my money on a better used machine with a proven track record than experiment.

Hi G.I.B. I found out that it's made by Teknetics. I've since learned that the Teknetic T2 SE is out of my price range, $700 to $850 in Canada (as is the Fisher Gold Bug 2 and Garrett AT Gold) . But the Teknetics 4000 is around $350 to $450 range. 80% of my use would be gold prospecting, while 20% would be for relics, as I am in a mountain setting. Is there something that could compare to the Teknetics 4000 in price and performance??

If you're primarily looking for prospecting capable detector, you are not going to find anything that will work well in that price range.
Used is gunna be your best bet.
Look for a Fisher GB/2, Tesoro Lobo SuperTRAQ, Whites GMT or MXT Pro, AT Gold, Teknetics G2. Still, you're going to have a really hard time finding find THAT good of deal on one of those in that price range!
Good luck.

Your absolutely right fella, worse yet my big deal came and went already. A guy that lives north of me was selling a Garrett AT Gold, earphones and coil cover (used only 3 times) for $550. The plan was to prostitute myself out 110 times and that AT would be mine...lol. He sold it at my 57th client, so I think I'll buy a really nice pinpointer and some beer :)
Good advice, save for a better MD.
