If you make an effort, that is great. I have returned many items. If I can't identify the owner, I put an ad on craigslist.com. If no one comes forward, I can keep it with a clear conscience.

Good luck!

Re: ok about the i pod its a i pod touch

Your disposition of the item should be governed by what music you find on it.
Return the Ipod if you find mostly songs of the following type:

70's to early 90's alternative- Talking Heads, B-52s, Half Japanese, early REM, etc
Vegas Lounge
Trad Country
Classical
Electronica-trance, chill etc
anything Brazilian
the great Latin band leaders
60-70's soul

Keep the Ipod if you find the following:

Gangsta rap
80's hair bands
Boy Bands
Anyone from American Idol (except Kelly Clarkson)
Britney Spears
Urban contemporary
New country
Soft, fuzzy hits of the 60's 70's and 80's

Re: ok about the i pod its a i pod touch

Seek and shall find. Give and it shall be given unto you.

Re: ok about the i pod its a i pod touch

Return it to the owner. You won't regret it. :icon_sunny:

If it was yours...and you lost it....you would appreciate somebody returning it to you. 8)

Re: ok about the i pod its a i pod touch

I would return it but first load up some songs you enjoy so they have some treasures to find once you return it.

You definitely did the right thing! CONGRATS!

Last year I found a gold wedding band that had 13 small diamonds. It wasn't my first but it was the first with an inscription. It had names and a date from 1965. The joy I felt from finding it suddenly turned into deep thoughts of how the person losing it felt. I couldn't in clear conscience keep it without trying to locate who lost it. Sadly, I was unsuccessful and it hurts a little every time I look at that ring (I've got 72 Silver/Gold rings now).

Since then I've researched the legalities of losers and finders. And it's NOT losers weepers. The loser retains legal ownership of lost items (a bit counter-intuitive). Each state is a bit different but after a "reasonable" attempt at trying to return something relatively valuable ($100+?) the finder is entitled to keep the item ... BUT not before.

Of course this does not mean too much if someone finds and keeps the item but if an attempt to sell the item is made than it could make a difference.

Anyways it makes sense to me to try to find the owners.
