If it's marked

Nippon - it is (before japan was japan).

Japan - it is (pre WWII).

Occupied japan - it is (from the end of the war & until we left officially).

Made in japan - it is (after the war after we were done occupying it).

I collect all but the last (Made in japan) as it's not worth anything, and is usually low quality.

Here's is one of my cabinets full of a LOT of nippon, japan, and occupied japan as well as other stuff :)

Thanks Sherman & Nana,

I forgot to add,

nice find there Sherman,

wish it would have been fully intact when you found it

I may have wanted to buy it from you (if it would've been for sale)!

Great collection lonewolf, how long have you been collecting these? Now i know what the marks mean, thanks ;) I always check those palte fragments and take them home if they have a mark on the bottom.

Thanks, Lonewolfe, for the info. I "had" >:( a pretty little cup and saucer set from Occupied Japan that had been in my family for years. Bumped it wrong one day and broke the cup. :( Ms. Clumsey. >:( >:( >:(

Jake,

I've been collecting pottery, art glass, salt/pepper shakers, china, bottles, coins, relics, tokens, antique furniture, and an aray of other things for over 25 yrs

1 word of advice/caution though,

if you invest in this kind of stuff thru-out the yrs, and you ever get married,

don't EVER get divorced unless you like giving 1/2 of your stuff away (and usually the "better 1/2")! lol

I "had" pieces worth 100s and even 1000s (still have some- ok more than some) but,

a LOT of the better stuff was lost in a bitter divorce/battle (War of the roses you might say)!

As someone told me once,

while you're young & before you make your fortune, go out and find the woman you hate the most, buy her a car, a house, and everything to go in it, give it to her, and get it over with! ;D

Good luck, and HH
