Shaprshooter Ring

Hi All,
Several years ago my Whites 6000D told me to remove this item from the ground and since then I've wondered what it was all about.

It is a simple cheap ring built to be formable to fit many finger sizes made of aluminum. It says sharpshooter on the front and has some sort of symbol below it.



The backside of it is the back side of it, nothing that I see there that tells me anything.



I would appreciate any information you have concerning the ring, why it was produced and how did a person come by them (get them in a special box of cereal so they could join a secret club, etc.) and if it has any value as that would be curious to know. Once I had a collector offer me $20 for it just so he could research but I was and still am into keeping my finds.

yep -- ring is def based on the WW 1 - WW2 era sharpshooter "medal" award * -- looks like a 1920 /1950 era kiddie ring of some sort -- many cereal companys in the old days had give away "toys" in their products

also many radio programs had giveaways too --for their "loyal followers"

Seeing the Sharpshooters medal was a thrill as it has the words and symbol of the ring. The real sharpshooters medal looks like it provided the name and symbol for the child's ring as I also believe it is a child's ring and that it came as a "prize" from some promotional product or show. Now, what show or product and what year and any value. I would think it was produced After one of the wars as during the war the metal would have been a waste of resources to use it for a ring. Thank you for looking at the post and for your thoughts and help. I wonder what else will show up?

I believe it's a " Tom Mix " sharpshooters ring" google Tom Mix. Tom Mix was an early Ralston Purina advertising cowboy. It was for their breads and cereals........NGE

I think his were either "straight shooters" or "lookaround" rings ... any others usually had his name on them :

Sorry about the misinformation, but I coulda swore that I remembered it as Tom Mix That's what happens when you rely on dead brain cells as you get much older than when you first saw it After I posted my reply, I went to google, and many other sites ie. vintage radio premiums, toys, cereal, t.v. shows of the 40's and 50's, no sharpshooter's found anywhere. Is it possible that my brain created this memory.....very scary . I apologize for the bad info. All I came up with is "straightshooter's" BUT, I know it's out there somewhere, just can't remember the search terms. This message will self destruct in 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5,.......... ..........NGE

Back in the 70's I'd contacted an antique/unusual stuff dealer and he offered me $20 for it as HE did NOT know himself where it came from and was curious about it. Well it being a "find" and all I did not sell it to him so it sits in its film can waiting to be rediscovered again.

Redford Township Michigan, my my how small this world is! In 57 I lived on Inkster Road right across the street from Redford Township. Is Brady Hardware still on the main street at the corner of Inkster & ? (main street name is gone from brain cells,Warren Rd.?) I used to shoot my BB gun at the creek rats in the creek just off of Inkster. Back then there was a big field out there but I know somebody threw out house weed seeds and they grew as the last time I was through there it was solid houses. I attended Riley Junior High School before I left for other places long long ago. Currently in Northern California over the hill from Oakland and I play in the Sierras prospecting, catching trout and exploring side canyons. The place is covered with snow and the creeks and rivers are dangerous right now and will be till sometime this summer so I'm stuck in my armchair till then though I am looking at coils for my GMT metal detector right now.

No problem. I even checked the toy gun sets that were sold back in the 1930s-50s and couldn't find a match. I just can't see it was a custom made order, being of aluminum.

I'm one of those that hate not knowing. I hope one day you will have it ID'd ...

Hoppy was one of the biggest when it came to childrens toys and awards. I could find nothing on a ring like that but my search is very narrow. Scarfs, scarf slide, gun and holster sets, hats, and any other thing you could think of. Merchandising was really in it's heyday. I barely remember something about a ring back then. Hoppy was way up in age before Roy, Gene and the Durango Kid, and most of the others ever hit the screen.
