My first thought was a carved bullet. There is rust on the pointed end. Is that suface rust from lying beside iron or is there iron inside the lead piece?

It is rusted. I am now convinced it is not lead. What material are the things that people put on the bottom of boats to stop the rusting in salt water? Well this seems like the same material. :dontknow:

:hello:

It looks like a lead plumb bob, it's had iron in the centre, could be for the loop. Bit like this

Seems like your on to something. There seems to be a loop on top that has been smooshed. The one issue I have with this theory is that the cone part looks as if it was set inside something from the markings. :icon_scratch:

Looks a little bit similar to the item you found in your What Is It post titled "Screw?". Were they found in the same location?

What is the diameter ?
Its the size of a dime. I did not find them in the exact same area. The other item is much smaller in diameter.

Looks alot like the bottom part of a shaler bullet but at size of dime i guess would be to big for that? And not sure if some shalers had solid base.
