Found this in a private yard, the house dating back to the early 1800's or before. It is 2 1/2 inches tall by 1 3/4 inches wide, the rings on the right side are present and also made of copper, the back is blank except for a stamp/engraving at the bottom saying "Archer"....the rings don't allow it to be opened very wide so is like a narrow purse....Any ideas??? Thanks.

hey digger,

that is very cool.
i suggest it is not a purse. judging by the holes on the left, it appears that rings are missing like the ones on the right. could also be some type of wallet that fit into a vest pocket. that is very interesting. i will help you find a picture somewhere.

It may have something to do with a lucky charm of some sorts since it has the clover.

Maybe it's for holding a book of matches . This one is almost the same size as yours . 1 5/8'' wide 2 3/8'' tall . Just a guess .

Can we get a side view pic of this thing?

Michelle, the side view is almost flat, with the rings still intact on the right side (they originally went around the bottom and both sides) are about 1/8 of an inch around.
