Just got robbed by the Mexican police. Got the old you were speeding and you have to pay me now or go to jail scam. We weren't speeding and the have no radar guns. They stole my last twenty three dollars. I already had a low opinion of police but this just drove it straight into the ground. I strongly urge anyone thinking of going to Mexico to reconsider.

60 minutes did a show years ago on Mexican police that would go into California and Arizona and steal late model SUV's and 4 X 4's. They would drive them back across the border and just use them as their own vehicles. They didn't even bother to take off the license plates. Who's going to question them ?

When the reporters took video of some of these and ran the plates, it confirmed where they came from. The police confronted them and warned them that they would be arrested if they didn't leave.

I'm all for law and order but the thugs in uniform that seem to be more and more a part of modern police forces aren't part of that. Canada's RCMP is proof of that lately.

Mexico is one of the most dangerous places for American tourists to visit. The crimes that take place against tourists are incredible, just try to take a taxi ride in Mexico City and see if you still have your money left. There never has been much difference between the criminals and the police other than a uniform. There have been calls for the State Department to list a warning about Americans traveling to Mexico but our wonderful government will not do it because they don't want to offend the Mexican government. Apparently it's far more important to worry about the feelings of the Mexicans rather than protect the safety of U.S. citizens. Anybody that travels to Mexico, any part, is crazy.

When I was stationed at Ft. Bliss, TX. we would often go into Juarez to drink or whatever soldiers do ( ;D ) Every time we drove a car over the border we got hassled by the Mexican police. They would actually commandeer a Mexican citizens vehicle to chase us. It wasn't as if we were doing anything wrong, we weren't but we were targeted as easy prey by our U.S. license plate.

On one occasion we had borrowed a buddys old Ford truck that had no stereo. Like a dumbazz I decided to bring my JVC boombox for entertainment. It wasn't long before we were pulled over and had to begin bartering for our 'release'. We lost $20.00 and my boombox that day.

Another time in another friends VW Bug we were chased and pulled over but this time we were forced to follow the cop to their station because my friend refused to give up any cash to a crooked cop on fake charges. Luckily for me my buddys name was Juan Gonzales and spoke fluent Espanol.
I sat in the car for two hours locked up inside the impound while Juan raised hell.
Both of us were Military Police so I think he reminded them that whatever happens on their side of the border would be worse for them on our side.
From then on we parked on the U.S. side and walked over.

Sorry, but I just don't see any reason to visit Mexico at this time. I had gone there years ago when it was a little safer. If you want a little taste of Mexico, or Mexican food, I suggest visiting Arizona :laughing7: Well, that is to at least the end of this month :tongue3:

Living down here in Deming New Mexico, We are in the know.

More people are killed in Mexico every day then in Afghanistan .

Think about that!

Convert your cash to pesos. They're looking for American money. Pay them off in American money and they pass the word. Mexican Law Enforcement is pretty much an oxymoron.

Sheehs and I live there, sigh. My mines are in the heart of the narco growing country.

As for crooked cops, I was in Tucson and was caught in heavy going home traffic, I was literally locked in and couldn't go more than 20 mph. However a Cop proceeded to stop traffic and pulled me over for doing 60 mph in a residential area ???? You don't suppose that having a Calif lic had anything to do with it?

Just remember, pure Saints, such as myself, are very rare.

Frankly one of the most dangerous places is
a US rest stop at night

Sorry, no way in the world you can compare Mexican police to American Police........

Which american police? all kinds, shapes and forms. I was a US Border Patrol Officer, Texas, Max security officer at San Quinitn, Calif, and did a bit of Narcotic work in SF. Calif.

Back in the 1960s, you could take your car into Tijuana for a custom tuck and roll seat cover job. You had to stay at the shop and watch the work because if you didn't a lot of times the shop guys would use dried cow manure to stuff the rolls in the seat covers. They could do the job in one day and did pretty good work, but they would use the cow crap if you didn't watch them in order to save their costs for the foam rolls. Sometimes they'd hid some MJ in your car and narc you to the Mexican Border Patrol for the reward that was on standing order.

Ahhhhhhhhh, the glorious 60s.

Sorry, but you can compare la policia de Mexico to American Police. But maybe not favorably. There are a few good ones that haven't been killed yet. Their time will come. The problem is not Juan and Juanita sneaking in here to pick peaches, but they are much easier to arrest than those bad-*ss narcos. My step-daughter told us about a grenade being thrown at the PD in Guadalajara. No big deal to her. 18 shot and killed in Torreon, where my wife is from and Tia Argelia lives now, yesterday. The border towns have always been a cesspool as they catered to American interests, but I still advocate rolling into Mexico and taking out the cartels, unless we want to eliminate the American demand for their products. And Real de Tayopa, that's one way we make our money, off of tourists. (Actually our cops treat tourists fairly well, but God help you if you're a local on a skateboard.)
