We were not predicting a day like this, we expected to do about 1 hour finishing off the first larger hotspot & move to a smaller one later. But the GPSed scatter this year grow a little so we stayed in the first spot for just over 3 hours before moving after lunch. I got the Roman Silver on the first run, 3th or 4th dig, normally the 'kiss of death' for us. Turns out the silver is exactly the same coin that Cru'dad found 2 trips ago & it completely proved the point I was recently making about tarnished/not tarnished. Same coin (although this obverse Legend has the same letters but a different break point at the head, making it slightly scarcer than Cru'dads, otherwise same mint etc...), same grade, same field, completely different looking. No idea why.
5 hours & 15 mins:
8 Scrappies & one nice bronze of Magnentius AD350.
2 Livery Buttons
WWI? Crossed Rifles Badge (Royal Rifles?)
What Is It? Brass piece with 3 holes & a screw top - anyone? (left in 3rd photo)
Tudor Clothes Fastener
Roman Lead Steelyard Weight
Roman Locking Mechanism piece
Roman Disc Brooch
1937 Shilling
1883 Sixpence
Cut Qrter of Henry III
Roman Silver Siliqua of Julian II. (I also recently said I'm due the next Roman Silver from this field, as Cru'dad had the only 2)
Kind of crazy to have the last 3 outings be; Roman Silver, Celtic Gold, & Roman Silver.
