My Friends- I hope my post finds you in good spirits. Great score story! The other day I was out bottle pickin’ and detectin’ with my buddy along a dryn-up hotspot we have come across. After a few hours and no real keepers, we parted ways and I took my sweet time enjoying the Colorado air and detecting with the MXT along the path back to my Jeep. A lot of people out (and many said "hi") and this cool guy stops bye, asks what how I’m doin’ (mind you, at this point, I’m digging like usual) next he says as he has some old detectors and gear for me. I said “I got no money” – “he said that ain’t necessary”. He had been thinking about cleaning out his shed full of these old detectors he inherited from a lady in California. He had got them on account of some work he’d done for the lady and when her husband passed away, she gave him all this gear n’ such. I’m not one to argue, so I made plans promptly to pick-up the outfit. I was pleasantly surprised to see all the goodies that he tossed in. There was a stack of old dusty boxes, full of gear – detectors, books, coils, straps, rods, videos, and many other bits. The winner of all of this gear was a Garrett GTA 1000 with hothead 10.5 coil (brand-new coil) - it works great! Now I have a decent back-up detector or something to let other people utilize - see my "finds" photo below.

Next, a Fisher Model 433? box (old VLF model …nice condition..totally vintage-not sure of the year). After a little research, I was finally able to piece this classic unit together - it beeps! Digging deeper into the rigging, I discovered five old blue boxes which were home-made metal-detectors that look like they are geared for old Fisher coils. Interestingly enough, I have been working on a design that uses multiple coils/detectors - so this really came at an excellent time.

Field Test: Cleaned-up and calibrated, I realized that this was Garrott’s digital flagship model from 1991-1995 and was sold for $600 during that time. I went ahead and took it to my test-park for two hours and I must say, I enjoyed some really nice features of this machine ie: notching, tones, wearable battery pack, etc! While seemingly not as much “punch” (7khz) as the MXT (13.8khz), I put it in “coin and jewelry” mode - and as you can see, that is what I found. $1.73 and two rings - one 925 with 7 stones. Overall, I guess the results speak for themselves. Your opinion is welcomed!

P.S. The guy said he would contact my webpage if he found anymore gear or decided to get rid of any of the other detectors he decided to hold onto for a while. Still delighted - J.

Holy moly, what a haul! I'd have to take him a nice lunch tray from my favorite delly

Man! How come that sort of thing never happens to me!
All I get are old ladies sending their dogs over to urinate on me while
I'm digging because they don't like me 'digging holes in their park'! :laughing7:

Really like the 925 silver ring with 7 stones! :notworthy:
Everything you found is great . . . except for that dawg Canadian Penny! :D

Dave

The GTA 1000 is still a great detector by today's standards! Banner find for sure!

Wow, thats awesome! Its great to know that there are people out there that would rather let someone enjoy a hobby that didn't interest them even if it means not getting any monetary gain. Congrats!

Nice - you're well on you way to opening an MD museum. :laughing7: Nice finds too!

That's great buddy. My friend Bill Ladd buys those old detectors like that and hangs them around his relic room, they make good discussion starters and talking pieces and look really cool as well. The backup Garrett is killer, I'd say that was well worth the drive over to get it, congrats :icon_thumleft:

Thanks for all the kind replies. Most of the time it is the dogs coming up to me, however, this guy "KeeNo" was adamant that these detectors should belong to me! OK! I guess it is good Karma and just to keep it going, I'm thinkin about slipping him some bills anyways (and maybe buying myself a lottery ticket .) Plus I think I have a coil cover and book for the Aquanaut(?) that he held on to, so I want to get that back to him - and just to stay in contact and say thanks. Charlie - If I ever let go of any the old the ol' books, they're yours! I'm still going through stuff so I'm still excited & the md museum is in full effect. Now all I need to do is to buy a bunch of batteries! :-\ ;D

Hope everybody is findin' some keepers - MJ
