I usually hunt in discriminate since there is usually a lot of junk on the beach and in the water. And, the Tiger Shark doesn't differ its tone by material so if you hunt in all metal you'll do a lot of digging. I usually set the discrimination at about 2 1/2, which will pick up pulltabs, nickles and small stuff as well as the goodies. I've owned the TS since June and have found three gold rings, 4 14k earrings and a few silver pieces. It takes some getting used to its sounds, but it will yell loud and clear when you have something good.

Beach Bling has good advice, only thing I would add is go through the quick start and ground balance as per the manual. Good Luck and Happy Hunting.

I have to agree with whats been said here. The Tiger Shark demands that you follow the directions and you really should go through them to the letter.

The Tiger Shark does not like iron much, either, and that's good. What you want in the water is a good iron discriminator. The TShark is that indeed. It crackles and pops over ferrous targets at almost any setting of the DISC, even low ones.

I'd go with a DISC of 0 to start with and listen for the tell-tale broken responses of iron - then dig them. Yes, youll find some bobby pins ans hair barrettes, but once you get a feel for them, you can begin raising your DISC. I wouldnt suggest anything above 2-3, though. And dont worry about anything else... if its there, the TShark will tell you.

BTW, bracelets and chains generally give the same reponse as iron targets, with only bit more solidity mixed in. I suggest you begin by digging everything.

Dehut is on the ball with his advice. Keep the coil level with the ground the whole sweep. Don't lift it on the ends of the sweep. Overlap a little for all the coverage. At a depth of near eight inches the coils field is about 3" round. This is why so much is missed my many.

good luck.
