I'm gonna make this long story pretty short. Went out to the local beach today, maybe expecting some clad or other nice trinkets. This is a local beach but does experience some traffic throughout the day. I went with my brother (he doesn't detect) and some family for a quick dip and maybe some finds. Well, I start out, a dime, penny..junk...the usual. So I'm detecting for about one hour, when I see my brother starring at something. He quickly starts bolting towards me with something in his hand. He's holding a 14k Diamond Ring that he accidently STEPPED ON! I've never found even a silver ring in my life and he just suddenly steps on gold. It's absoloutely amazing, and I'm still in awe and wonder. What are the odds? I'm happy for him but a little frustrated. He found it on dry sand aswell. Has anything like this ever happened to anyone you know? This is just incredible, but, once again, frustrating. So, to make this a "Today's Find" (it really is anyway, not by me though) I ended up with $2.36 in 1 1/2 hours, and brother with a Diamond Ring. Just wanted to let you guys know the incredible story, and will try to get pics up of the ring! I'm still in shock!

That sucks. Funny, but sucks.

Congrats to your Bro and better luck next time to you. :)

Thats a super slim chance. I find clad all the time laying on top ground at beaches, like 4 or 5 of them, but I always have to dig for rings.

Not that bad, but I have had 2 people follow behind me and my Ace 250 and they found silver coins that I missed. I have done great so far, but if I had a better machine, I could of done better. When I say follow behind me, I mean no less than 5 feet!!!!!

That sort of thing happends a lot. One time I was detecting with a friend at an old park. We were walking as close together as you could get with out our detectors feeding back. In fact our swings would overlap. He was wearing head phones and I was not. He got a target, knelt over, and poped out of the ground a one caret diamond ring with another two carets on the sides.
And once my aunt lost a very large diamond ring in lake Michigan. She sat down in the sand and prayed to get her ring back. She got up and walked back into the water. When she came out the ring was around one of her toes! AND SHE HAD NO DETECTOR! And yes that is a true story!

100% that day but over the next 10 years I give you a slight advantage. :D

That reminds me of a story of a rare early half that made the news not all that long ago. Was found at a construction site and was worth a crazy amount... like $200K+... All of us out there swinging the coil and getting little most days and this guy finds his retirement with an eyeball find while at work!

i was detecting one day and my 11 year old son was with me and i was digging clad here and clad there and he came over and showed me what he found..a nice $50.00 bill, so he bought us lunch and we both came away winners...

Thanks True_Metal! Yeah, I think its kinda funny now too

Relichunters - I RARELY find clad just lying on top. Is your beach a well used one?

WOW..I mean, mine was just dumb luck, but THAT must suck. I didn't go over the ring, but having people plop out silver right behind the spot you just went over, that's rough :-\

Again :'( when you think about it, you were soo close :( That must've been a hard feeling watching him pull that ring out! God works in mysterious ways! Your Aunt is one LUCKY woman!

Iron Patch - Yeah, I bet if we count up find - totals over the next ten years, I think I might just win ::) I know what you mean, you go out and give it your darndest, then someone just suddenly spots their jackpot. You'll hit your bigtime too, I hope 8)

Allen - Well, we might have a future THunter! With his luck, He may retire when he's 25 ;D Oh well, atleast you got lunch out of it!

Roadquest - I feel your pain. Some people have all the luck :-\

Thanks everyone for the stories and responses!

Was hunting last Saturday with a friend who occasionally accompanies me. I swing an upper end machine, have top notch headphones, Sunray probe, etc, etc, etc. I swing several dozen times a year. He swings an entry level Walmart/Radioshack machine. He was using (borrowed from me) a set of headphones, a decent digger, and a nailbag pouch. We weren't hunting 5 minutes when he kicked this up......

Skill and hardware go along way, but in the end, you won't find it unless you get your coil over it! Moral of the story? Get out there and dig some more!! :)

I hope the incident just motivates you more. I know it did for me.......

(the only keeper for me that day was a 45 wheatie)

Regards,
Jules
