I find interesting items at tag & estate sales - like sewing related items - LOVE buttons & beads. I have now found these 3 "heads"? in three separate sewing lots from three different places. I've asked everywhere & anywhere I can think of - so far all I've gotten is head scratching "I don't know(s)" back - sooooo maybe you know what they are (abo P1490018.webpP1220421.webpP1500631.webpP1220427.webput?)

Hello, welcome to the forum. What you have looks like a carved/decorated cashew nut in the shell. Does it feel like the shell of a nut? If not, what is it made out of? Below is a pic of cashews in their shell.
Interesting :)

Hi Breezie - The picture looks very much like what I have - it's hard to tell if there's a nut inside. (I love cashews but have never seen their shells before) They're each on the some what heavy side - no rattling when I shake them, which I would think they would do, since they seem to be pretty old and so would have dried out & shrunk by now (?), but this is great help - thank you
I love this site!!
I haven't got a clue as to how to answer every body who has responded, so please forgive any repeats here.

Yes - agreed - now that I've seen what every body is saying... all are either helpful, or have given me a good laugh.
I always enjoy that.
............
If I'm answering y'all the wrong way - I would appreciate it some one would tell me, please, so that I don't become obnoxious answering to all separately - or is this the way it's done?

MVC-515F.webpSeeing your post reminded me of this old necklace I have in my collection. I didn't know what they were. Learn something new every day! DDinPA.

You can multi-quote or answer separately; either way is fine with me. I do think your 'heads' are someone's creative art done on a cashew in the shell, (or some type of nut; although it looks more like a cashew than a targa.) and yes I agree the nut has probably dried up because of the age. They're quite interesting!

Dave, yours looks to be a cashew nut shell necklace. I've seen all sorts of carvings done on walnut shells and peach pits. GOOGLE carved peach pits and look at the intricate designs; it's amazing to me how someone can do that.

At the bottom of each post is an option to "Reply With Quote" - this puts the comment you're replying to in a quote bubble using the BBC tags [ quote=name ] Text [ /quote ] (minus the spaces). Once posted, it looks like this:

You can reference any number of comments this way by clicking Reply With Quote, typing a reply, copying it and pasting it into the next Reply With Quote window OR simply by retyping their comment into those Quote tags. For instance:

Your response: "Will do - thank you!"

Your response: "Hi Breezie - The picture looks very much like what I have - it's hard to tell if there's a nut inside."

With this method of responding it makes it easier to see who or what you're responding to. You can edit any text or images inside the quotes once you click the button, so if there is a specific portion of the text you're acknowledging, as Breezie has done with the bold tags. Makes life a lot simpler!

My Great, great Grandfather brought back similarly carved/scrimshawed nut shells from the Philippines after his tour of duty during the SpanAm War, 1898. Those being monkey faces, IMHO, they may have come from the south Pacific also. Weird and cool, congrats, Sub 8-)
