I couldn't be happier if I had found gold. Found this at my parents house, which had been my great grandparents home... And it's the home where my grandfather and his brother were born.

We lost my grandfather in a traumatic way last year... We use to discuss his life and history ... It was important to me to carry it on. We use to talk about WWII alot. He and his brother volunteered, only my grandfather made it home.

Finding a toy of his and a soldier at that... Is just really really special to me. Thanks for letting me share.

What sort of metal is it that it held up so wonderfully in the ground for 75 years?

see? and you were about to give up

That is awesome! Sorry to hear about your grandfather. I salute him and his brother for serving and defending our country, and you for finding part of his past! God bless you!

it is probably lead a thank you to your Grandfather

Holly, I would guess diecast or pewter. But I am really not sure. Nice find! Never give up on anything especially detecting. The ground is never done giving up treasures!

Finds like this with a connection like it has to your grandfather are rare and precious. Our country is lucky to have had him serving.

nice find congrats HH its made out of lead

Thank you so much everybody for your nice comments... They don't make em anymore like they did back then... People were just differnt... It's a shame. But glad he was a big part of my life.

I thought of your comment when I found it. I thought to myself... Well the earth offered up this elephant one of its treasures:)

trust me I'm a Doctor (not really)

and it'll be fun to see the reactions to your elephant comment

Wow, that's awesome! Congrats on the sentimental find, and my condolences for your loss of your grandfather. HH!

Your find is pre WWII. The war hadn't been going on very long before all the toy soldiers were made from plastic. The WWI helmet was used right up to WWII, but I would guess your grandfather was playing with it in the 1920's when it got lost. My parents and your grandparents were from the greatest generation, and we owe all of them a lot.

We sure do. They did what was right, because that's just what you did back then. And yes, exactly with the dates. 1920's woulda been when he played with them

Congrats, Holly. I had a special connection with my grandpa as well. I have an old Zippo he carried. The lid is loose and held on with a piece of wire, but I would not take a fortune for it. As long. We have our memories of them, they live on. May God Bless!

Happy Hunting!

Send to zippo and they will fix the hinge no charge.
