Hello everyone. I’ve been preparing for hunting season so I haven’t been out much. The temperature was 46 degrees this morning so I though I would get out a bit this morning. I showed up at the artillery camp this morning and found a detectorist out this morning on my spot without the owners permission. Naughty Naughty!!
I was able to pull up a few finds and something I’ve not found before. It seems as though my first find is a small sized cannonball. The second find was a small sized musket ball followed by an Artillery coat sized button.
Thanks for looking and happy hunting to all!

Hey SW! Thank you very much. Believe or not I was fairly cordial. Once he told me he didn’t have permission, I told him he was welcome to ask the land owners. So until you do and get permission, I don’t want to see you again.
The land owners are in there 80s and are like family to me so I do look out for them. I’ve been detecting that 10 acres for about ten years and relics still show up every hunt.
Good hunting to you sir!!

I have had a guy walk onto my site with their detector and start their own search but it was just an abandoned old property with lots of history that I felt most folks would not have known of....told him too much info, and he pounded the site for weeks. Boy did I regret that. I would let those property owners know that you alone would like to take care of saving the history found on their land......but hey, you did great with some awesome finds, thanks for posting.

Too bad people do that but it's good to see you looking out for your friends. You find really cool stuff, keep it coming buddy!

Are you going to put that shot into an electrolysis bath, and if you do keep us posted. Maybe someone can identify it by weight and caliber if it is canister type or not. Some research into the artillery that camped there may reveal what type of artillery were on hand.

Thanks Village. I got it soaking already.😀

Very Cool!!! Congrats!!!

Love the rifleman button and the fire button. What is the button with the figure reaching out?

Well done on the finds from the site that just keeps giving.
By now it must feel so comfortable going there, like meeting up with an ol' friend for a few hours.

Really what's with folks that just have this sense of entitlement about them to go and detect where ever they want.

Caught a couple of guys last fall, coming up onto my property line. Trespassing on a private land trust.
They knew fully well, but came off with threats to the trustees, and all aggressive in nature.

I mentioned it to the trustee that comes around regularly to chat about trespassers on the property.
He was interested in documenting the plate #'s with the LEOs, so I gave him the info on the trespassers.
They don't take kindly to having folks like that on their trust lands.

Steve unfortunately only the first two pictures were yesterday’s finds. I accidentally fat fingered the other pictures and they accidentally attached. My apologies to all.

But still they're lovely looking recoveries.

I agree with the first bit, let the owners know there was someone sniffing about on their land. But the second point I agree with the OP, we always let the Land-Owner decide how to control their land, we never ask for exclusivity. However, as a result of our honesty, thats what ends up happening on 90% of our permissions.
