Self Storage Auctions-Oklahoma

These auctions are held for non payment of the rental fees. There is a process of notifications involved and all kinds of paperwork. In some cities it goes through the sheriffs office. But in all cities/towns, it goes through the court house. Contact the clerk's office in the court house and they should be able to tell you who you need to talk to about getting a list or notification of some kind. There may be an advertisement requirement as well and the newspaper could help by telling you when and where they publish the material. It is sort of like a bank forclosure on a house but it is a business "kicking out" a tenant for lack of rent paid.

Bioprofessor is right about the court action and the advertising requirements.

The storage place must notify the owner that they are past due, and that they intend to auction off the items. Depending on the state, there may not NEED to be a court filing (there is none here in RI). The advertising requirements are almost always universal, however.

Check your local newspaper's "legal" section, where they advertise foreclosures, and bids for the state, etc... Your best bet is to go talk to some of the companies themselves and see if you can find an "in". My experience in both attending and conducting auctions (I'm an attorney) is that the more people from the "public" show up, the less likely you are to get a good deal.

Something else that may be of interest. In some (maybe all, I don't know) places, when the sale takes place, they cut the lock and open the unit. You can't go in and look around. You look at what you can see when they open the door and bid accordingly. Not like buying a "Pig in a Poke" but close.

It is really hit and miss since you don't know if the furniture drawers are full of stuff or not. You can get a unit full of nice stuff or one really that has nothing useful.

they are all BS.

In calif they have shown bidders finding guns in units. these guns must be turned in and are a loss.
also no Vehicles(any thing motor driven) found in units can be sold at auctions and must be sold by lien sale.

In calif items in a unit are inventoried before the auction and they don't just sell the unit so they are not cutting the renters lock off and selling the unit.
this in most cases means someone taking a few photos
 

Check out your local newspaper(s),or even contact the storage places them selves.
