This is a very beautiful piece that I scored this morning at a sale before work. It is collectible, as shown by sold similar ones on the E**y. It just needs a band an a battery. As always, SeikoM13.jpg your comments are appreciated.

beautiful watch artslinger, love those seikos. put a nice dark brown Hirsch strap on it and it will be a stunner

That is a gorgeous watch. Outside of a quartz Rolex it is probably about the only quartz watch id ever want to own. I’m a little concerned that the date doesn’t seem to be sitting properly. Hopefully it is just because the battery died at that point. I know there is a huge process to set these perpetual watches. I would download or check for you to video on how to do it.

A real Beauty! :occasion14:

Thanks to all for the feedback. I sincerely appreciate it. I was able to take the watch to a watch battery/jewelry store. This store is known for selling $1 batteries. I hand over the watch, and a young girl proceeds to open it and change the battery. Once done, she tells me that the watch does not work. I leave the store disappointed. Several days later I mention it to my friend, and he tells me that maybe it was the battery, and to take it somewhere else (no $1 battery place). A few days later I take it to a mall jeweler, and she proceeded to change the battery. To my amazement and joy, she hands it me and says it's ticking now"! :-) The watch has not stopped, it's keeping excellent time, and the date has set correctly.

My advice to all, don't buy cheap batteries for your watches. I certainly won't.

Sometimes you have to ground fault the movement to get it started. It involves touching the battery and a touch point with your middle tweezers. I bet you a lot of watches get thrown away because people fail to do this.

beautiful watch, glad to hear it worked. i often buy cheap batteries from china because i sell a lot of toys, and many of them use small watch type batteries. i always have to test them with a multimeter when taking the out of their package, about 1 in 10 is dead or weak out of the package. with really cheap batteries it can be as high as 1 in 4. the cheaper ones are also far more prone to leaking. would highly recommend better quality batteries for better quality products.

Damn. That thing is gorgeous! 😱

One thing about Watch Batteries, The Factory of higher end watches usually Install 5 year batteries as the watch may sit on a shelf for a few years before sold and the jewelers want to make sure the watches Run. I used to change out my Seiko batteries with fresh ones, the factory batteries ALWAYS lasted 3 or more years. Too Bad the Greedy companies won't sell 5 year Batteries to the public.

Nice find Artslinger.

Another tip, go to Older Jewelers stores who Have a watchmaker or have Had them IN Store, then ask for their box of Bands, you can find some superb bands NOS for little$ You might be amazed at what you can find.

When you take a quality watch to a store who does not train their people well, the person changing out your battery May Touch the little wrapped coil on the works, the acids from their finger/s will corrode the coil over time and cause premature failure, have seen that happen In the Hundreds of times..
