Seems like a lot of work for two cents.

I was going thru my jewelry box this morning and found what I think was an old effort to counterfeit a two cent piece. My cheap scanner doesn't bring out the detail but will give you an idea. I was detecting on the grounds of a fairly new school in Leavenworth, Kansas a few years ago. The school had been built on the site of an old school. I was literally digging up clad coins at the rate of about one a minute. Then I got a reading much deeper and found this. It looks about the size of a large penny but on the back has been scribed TWO CENTS and a lot of decorative scrolling and on the front more decorative scribing. Probably some school kid's project. Your guess is as good as mine. Jon
