I gotta wonder what kinda metal detector they used back then!

I think that was the year that they first sold the Erector Set for young engineers.
And no, I ain't that old!

I have an old RELCQ, B,F,O, type, but its from the early 1960s.... its a wall hanger, but it still works like its new, if you can stand the noise.

I use it when i'm looking for minerals in bedrock cracks. Time tested technology, or what they brought it out the first time.... WITCH CRAFT!

My first 2 Detectors were Relco

the first was a Relco kit the second was the Relco Frontiersman

Both Sucked in Anthracite Coal areas :( Too noisy.
Sounded like a
Theremin

Mine is a Frontiersman.
I picked it up for a couple of bucks for a wall hanger. I cleaned it up and took it apart and cleared the dirt dauber nests and checked it for bare wires and loose connections etc...

Put in a fresh battery and it fired right up.

And you are right about that sound!!
It’s unmistakable.
