Second Silver of "05"

Hey all,
Weathers been kinda bad here in Indiana, but the sun was shinning today.
Got out for a few hours and found a 1941 Wasington quarter...
Found it about 7" to 8" down... What was so cool is the Cz-3d deteced it right thru a 2 1/2' foot long piece of re-bar that I had to get out of the way to get to the quarter...

Hope you all had some luck today...

Super find Leon, I always love seeing the gleam of silver coming out of the ground. Amazing about the rebar being in the same area and your detector still being able to react to the coin. Keep on doing whatever you're doing cause its working great! Jim Cal

Great find Leon! You're proving the 3D's rep!

Re: Second Silver of "05"

Nice find, With some light cleaning it might pass for F-12 (fine) condition. I cant see from the picture if there is a mint mark. 1932-1964 the mint mark would be under the Eagle. After 1968 the mint mark would be to the right of George. In 1941 they were minted in Philly, Denver and San Fran. 2004 Blue Book Value is $.75 . It has .18084 of an ounce of pure Silver x $7.30 an ounce at current prices = $1.32 worth of pure silver. Not Bad.

Re: Second Silver of "05"

Thanks all,
Ended up getting in a hurry earlier, so I didn't have time to explain the re-bar too well.
I got a good high-tone with that sweet sound of silver tossed in at about 7" on the depth gage.
I started to cut a plug and hit what I thought was a pipe, so I cleaned the dirt out from around it, and it was the 1/2" re-bar.
It was laying horizontal, and the center of it was about were I pin-pointed for the silver hit.
I was thinking, " there's no way my machine would lie to me that bad "
I pull it out of the hole, and recheck the hole, sheeeew... the silver hit was still there.
I wasn't running any discrimination, and didn't even hear the iron... I don't know if it was because I was at the center of the bar, as apposed to one of the ends, or what :'(

The 3D is definitely proving it self to me...

Re: Second Silver of "05"

Congrats Leon! Silver is nice any day. I'm stuck indoors tomorrow minding a table at a gun show. I'd like to be outside detecting the fairgrounds where the show is, but this is one way I support my detecting addiction. I had a good day at the show today & I picked up one silver coin, 1763 Bavarian piece, & a few gold coins. All by buying & trading antique firearms, but it would have been a heck of a lot more fun if I had found them with my DFX. Glad you had a nice day detecting. Spotz

Re: Second Silver of "05"

Thanks again all.
I haven't forgotten about the crawlspace yet, Brink.
I been busy lately and haven't had the chance to get back down there.
When the sun started shin'n, I was gone... ;D
