Second 1864 2 center "small motto" in less than a month, LC, IH and first gold...?

Here are some of my recent finds. One from a hunt this past Saturday and a short hunt today that I gained permission to yesterday. Saturday I went detecting with my cousin up at my aunts house near the warrenton/Culpeper area. Everything was going as usual up until 1:00pm when the shaft right below the hand grip on my F75 snapped! After that my hunt was kinda ruined because all I could worry about was that. It was "held" together for the remainder of the hunt with some tape. Before that I found 5 early buttons and a no date matron head large cent. Yesterday I gained permission to a new site. There's a bunch of land, but for now I can only detect around the house as farmers lease the land around it. It appeared as though the house had been detected, cherry picked over if you will. I had extremely high hopes for this place as far as silver coins. I only began to get into something when I detected a strip on the other side of the driveway. The first good find was the 1884 IH. 2 feet away I got a small childs ring. It's old and it came out shining like gold, but no markings are visible. It reads low on the F75 like in the 20's, not of a higher number like brass or silver reads. Only thing I guess I can do now is have it tested. I've never found gold, so I don't know! lol Next great signal in this small strip was an 1864 2 cent piece and the more rare "small motto" variety. It's in excellent shape, due to it being down a good foot. After that I went back in the yard and found a couple wheat pennies('27 and a '47). All in all a good hunt after work. I will probably go back, but my main objective is to obtain permission for the entire property. Thanks for looking guys and HH!

Great job, that 2 cent looks in pretty good shape from the picture. I've got a gold coin in my collection that I use to test all of my detectors when I first get them & I've found that somtimes the numbers don't match what the instruction manual says, thanks for the post & photos.

GOOD HUNT - NICE FINDS :icon_thumright:

Very nice coin Matt. You've done quite well in that department this year.

Very cool stuff , did you go to a jeweler yet?

Not yet. I'm almost 100 percent positive it's real gold. There's no flaking and where the ring actually broke there is no "green" or brass showing where the break was. Its all one color. Plus the ring read from 22-25 on the vdi AND it's pretty hefty for such a small ring. I may take it somewhere to see for sure though.

Spectacular hunt friend ! With the "Matron Head " LC, the two cent , the gold ring, and the old flat button - I'm just this side of a
BANNER vote ! Please keep us posted on your acid test for the gold ring - I'm betting you have at least 14K !

Well thank you, Argentium!

Very nice 2 center....looks like alot of fun right there....get into those fields also !!!!

I have found three rings so far that I wanted to check out for the stones mostly, I went to four different jewelers and they were all very helpful in giving me information without charging me anything. I didn't have gold but the one ring was sterling silver and the jeweler told me the age, which I thought was cool. Anything I can put a age on is interesting for me. When I first looked at your thread I immediately wanted to know the age and what kind of stone was in that ring. Also for me I always want to know the value, not that I would sell it, but like the age of things, I always want to know the value.
I think your ring is gold and along with your other finds, banner worthy.

Thanks man. When I get a free day when NOT detecting I will definitely take it to a jeweler.
