I had eyeballed a abandoned farmhouse a few weeks ago. Tracked down the landowners yesterday and got permission to hunt it. I was warned that not not only had it been hit before, but the lady warned me that her brother had hit it many times. No problem. If I only hit virgin sites, I'd be sitting on my butt most of the time. She believed that the house was 1840's, but wasn't sure. Doesn't matter, the location is such that use would have been from the earliest of pioneer times, and truthfully it would have been frequently used by Indians. Anyway, non-ferrous targets were rare. Otherwise than beer cans. Found a wheat and a flat button early, then had a big lull. After a while a hit a few more targets, which included a couple more buttons, the military button and the 1876 seated dime. Was only a couple of inches down and sounded like a piece of can slaw, VDI was hitting in the 50's and 60's. That brought a smile to my face. A bit of a lull and found a couple of suspender pieces, part of a button. Not a single clear signal on any good target. Then the monsoon hit. Was sopping when I got to the car. Nice thing was, when she gave permission she told me just to make sure and stop by and let them know if I was ever going back there, or to let her parents know. BTW, if there is a market for square nails, I have a mine.
