I had eyeballed a abandoned farmhouse a few weeks ago. Tracked down the landowners yesterday and got permission to hunt it. I was warned that not not only had it been hit before, but the lady warned me that her brother had hit it many times. No problem. If I only hit virgin sites, I'd be sitting on my butt most of the time. She believed that the house was 1840's, but wasn't sure. Doesn't matter, the location is such that use would have been from the earliest of pioneer times, and truthfully it would have been frequently used by Indians. Anyway, non-ferrous targets were rare. Otherwise than beer cans. Found a wheat and a flat button early, then had a big lull. After a while a hit a few more targets, which included a couple more buttons, the military button and the 1876 seated dime. Was only a couple of inches down and sounded like a piece of can slaw, VDI was hitting in the 50's and 60's. That brought a smile to my face. A bit of a lull and found a couple of suspender pieces, part of a button. Not a single clear signal on any good target. Then the monsoon hit. Was sopping when I got to the car. Nice thing was, when she gave permission she told me just to make sure and stop by and let them know if I was ever going back there, or to let her parents know. BTW, if there is a market for square nails, I have a mine.

Nice surprise! I love "hunted out" sites also.

Sweet Seated- congrats! Always great to find keepers at a place that has hit many times before.

Ahhhh Centennial Seated!! Congrats!!! I really like the The buttons especially the eagle civil war button. HH

Nice seated .

Awesome hunt, congrats on the seated. I want to be in the seated club. I guess I will have to keep standing.

Great seated surprise, nice hunt!

Nice seated gotta love those iron infested sites because someone always leaves something behind.

Congrats on digging all those keepers. :occasion14: I really love the seated. They are scarce in my area.

Nice going. Seated is always a surprise. I'm having my best year with them, 6 so far and every one was a surprise. 8-)

Well, they are scarce about anywhere. I have two this year, but my choice of hunting sites has put me in the right locations, even if they haven't been coin target rich areas. My silver count for the year is 3. But these are my first two seated dimes, and I have picked up my first FE cent and Shield nickel this year. So far I've been pretty happy hitting the old iron beds and picking a few older coins. I passed on quantity for the older ones.

I have only dug one seated and it was my 1st silver ever back in 2014. I'm still looking for my 1st FE. I mainly like to hunt permissions, but I will hunt public lands when the ground is too dry or too muddy for permissions or when no permissions are available at the moment. Looks like we became members around the same time. You sure are hunting some sweet sites.

Well, I'm actually hunting in woods or pastures mainly. Some is public property and some are permissions. I'm just not hitting a lot of houses that are still occupied. BTW, what part of Ohio are you in? I'm near Louisville, KY.

Got a lot of good keepers there. That is a Civil War era general service button by the way. I would take that over just about any coin other than a key date. That dime is a good looking coin. I would definitely be going back

Sweet seated!!
