I finally got out after a long stretch of working. I decided to try a field I'd only been to one other time but looked promising with a small hill and a lot of early glass fragments and small pieces of brick. . I had a few wheat cents and some early brass items and was about to leave but decided to swing a long arc behind the hill away from the main iron bed. I got a nice clean high tone and flipped up what I thought was a large cent at first but could see bits of shiny here and there. I actually waited till I got home to reveal what it was. An 1853 seated quarter with arrows and rays. So nice! Good Hunting and best of luck to all.

Nice recovery :occasion14:
The detail is crisp on her, though it's seen some getting kicked around abuse in the soils after being lost.

Well said. Thanks! Headed back out later with the big coil to see if it was part of a spill.

Very Nice!!!!! Congrats!!!!

Congrats! Seated anything is rare let alone a big one.
Thankyou! My thoughts exactly. I remember when I first started detecting looking at the Seated coins on here, but it was a few years before I got my first. I remember thinking, "Where are these guys getting these?" This will be my fourth in 12 years of detecting. My first came from a road tear-out and worn. My second from a cleared lot in the business section of town, also worn. Mt third came from a cleared house lot in the Historic District. A beautiful 1860 which I posted on here. That one blew me away! And now this one which I wasn't expecting from a field. I guess my point is that they're out there, just elusive.

very nice. I wish I could find stuff like that

Very cool, one of my favorite coin designs
