Wow that is nice. Looks like a horse rosette. I've never seen one with that design but have seen them pewter, plated and dished like that. I'm thinking 1830's for the time because of the construction and the design

Broken Knee, it looks like it was patterned after the Gobrecht design used on the dime and half dime of 1837. A little more research will tell you whether he based this image on an earlier sculpture or relief, but that should be pretty easy, and it will give you a cut off date.

p.s. Va, I see we posted at the same time, yes I agree, 1830's.
