I put in 8 hours (over two days) on one area right down the street from where I live and finally found a coin today. It's in pretty worn condition but I always get excited when I find a seated coin ... especially a half dollar or any coin for that matter dated 1859! There are thousands of iron targets so this area could keep me busy a long time if I practice patience. :tongue3:

Some of the other items found include countless square nails and mangled metal (not pictured), a lead Dupont gunpowder lid, a brass spur, horse tack, some pretty cool looking iron latches ... at least that's what they look like to me, period shoe doodads, brass lamp parts and lead.

It's always fun looking! :hello:

Very cool and a nice collection of relics, they should make a cool shadow box display.

Very nice coin. I was real excited when I found my 1907 Half Dollar. I think I could practice patience with that site. I found a similar site and dug a piece of a Silver Dollar. It looks like a crescent moon with "ONE DOLLAR' showing on one side and the top of liberty's head on the other. Good luck with future hunts there.
HH everyone

Nice finds congrats on the sweet coin. Thanks for sharing.

That is really cool, I read your banner post also, you have been quite blessed with Seated Half's. Was this one from that same banner site? Way to go on the persistence, I would love to find seated like that.

Very nice find. Congrats. GL&HH.

Nice going on the half.

What a wonderful find! I hope one day to get luck enough to come across a seated coin. I think they are really nicely designed.

This site is actually from a field just down the street from where I live and is a mile or so from the site where I found a mini-cache (7) of seated halfs a few years ago. I'm up to about 20 seated halfs in my detecting life.

That seems like a strange colore for a silver coin.

You are totally right! Here is pic in natural light. I used a overhead lamp to provide the light on the post. My bad!!

what an exciting find!! Seated anythings are still on my 'to find' list....impressive! I also tell people about this hobby and the main issue is patience 101 ! Thanks for posting!

That's a great find...I've never found one yet...what was the depth? I've found several walking liberty half's and they was from 2 to 3 inches...I think it's in great shape from what I'm seeing, considering the age...congratulations.

20 Seated Half Dollars ? That is Staggering !!! (even with finding 7 in a Cache !) Most of us will likely never bag a Seated Half ,
How many years have you been detecting ? Did you find all of them in Oregon ? (Nice Find by the way !)

Congratulations on an awesome coin. A nice reward for all the work you put in.

Nice coin, love old silver

That is a top-of-the-world find for that area of the country. BIG congratulations on such a great coin. I love the spur, too!
