We dug and 1860s to 1870 privy yesterday, and I was detecting the dirt as the other guys were digging as usual. I got 3 shield nickels , a toasted seated half dime and an 1876 Carson City mint dime and a zouave button that I left at the home site by accident. The seated half was in bad shape from all the urine over the years but the seated dime actually wasn't in bad shape considering sitting in the bottom of an outhouse for over a hundred years. Here a couple pics of it after electrolysis and antique treatment.
