I have not gotten out much this year but the coinhunting.net spring hunt last weekend really got me motivated again. I decided to make a little time this weekend in-between family commitments. Went to a wedding in IA on Saturday. Decided to hunt a local park for an hour in the morning before leaving town. I recently got an Etrac and wanted to get some more practice in. Park was extremely trashy but was able to find a 1945-D Merc, a 1930 wheatie and some clad.
After leaving Iowa, we stopped to visit my father in Illinois. While my wife took a nap, I slipped out to an old 19th century fairgrounds location knowing I had about an hour and a half to get some hunting in before it would be time to head back to Chicago. The last time I was at this site was back in 1982 when I was 12 years old swinging a one button Compass detector. It was heavily pounded in the 1970s and 1980s. I was pleasantly surprised to find it still had a few goodies left. First good signal was an 1883 Seated dime and then I found a 1902 Barber dime. Followed that up with 3 Indians – 1864 (not sure what variation yet), 1882, and 1889. Then it was time to go. It’s the closest I have come to getting the silver dime grand slam in one day.
