Hello,
Had some time before work today to hit up a bunch of banks. Managed to dump $300 in nickles, and bought $400 more! 2 boxes were from the fed, so I saved them for last. The other $200 was a mix of hand rolls and fed rolls, and the lady thanked me for taking them all! My pleasure ma'am! )
I searched the mix boxes first, and had a few nice finds. The previous $300 yeilded zero silver nickles, but I found 2 in that $200 mix. Also found a 1946s which fills a slot in the folder.
Box 3 was fairly uneventful, but a nice mix of pre 1960s.
Box four was borderline dreamy. Halfway through I was getting very discouraged. I had 3 or 4 keepers, and most were 1959. Then out pops a BEAUTIFUL 1951s! Full steps, absolutly beautiful coin. Not a scratch on it! Had to do a little holler for that one ) About 5-10 rolls later, I am pulling down coins and flipping them to all heads for my date search, when a coin stops me dead in my tracks. I am still goosebumpy from this one. The coin I saw was stunning - absolutly beautiful in color, tone, and detail. I carefully picked it up, and saw a beautiful thing - 1977s!!!!! My second proof, but this one is in prooflike condition still! No scratches, AMAZING luster, and just wow...I felt very out of place handling such a special coin out of a protective sleeve. Needless to say, I quickly carded this one, and had to stop for a while from the rush. And then, to top off the box, I pulled my third silver of the night. I also wound up with a good number of other keepers from the box, so it turned out to be very nice indeed despite the slow start to it.
Also, I found a 1947 with what may be a d/s or s/d. I dont see any mention of this variation on the major coin sites, but this nickle has a strange look on the mint mark. What do ya'll think? Is it a D? Is it an S? Or is it both?
Grand total for 4 boxes(as reflected by the picture)
1939-1949: 22 nickles
War Nickles: 3
1951s
1947 with ? mintmark
1946s
1977s Proof: 1
1950-1959: 43 nickles
Thanks for reading,
Anthony
