Found this at a revolutionary war skirmish site in NJ. Any ideas on what it may be? I was thinking possibly an internal sear to a musket.

Thanks.

gun lock.jpgThe arrow pointing up shows the sear sitting against the tumbler in the fired position. The deep notch in the tumbler is the half cock safety, and the small notch just on top of that is the full cock notch. The arrow pointing left is showing the part of the sear that the trigger engages to lift the sear out of the notch in the tumbler. Granted, this is a caplock, not a flintlock, but the inner workings of both type of locks are exactly the same. It doesn't look to me like you have a sear, it's probably out of a locking mechanism of some sort, like the already mentioned door lock.
