Found this ring yesterday.
Trying to find what the symbol on the ring means.
Writing is backwards.
Makes me think it's some type of seal ring.
Thanks.

I dont recognize it but it has familiar elements; crest, knight, sword, shield.

I reversed it. Does it actually say something? Maybe a golf or cricket club? It looks like a generic civilian fashion blazer type of crest with a Latin phrase in a ribbon scroll. :dontknow: The first word in the Latin phrase may be Eis.

I think your probably right; that it's a civilian club ring of some kind with a generic design. There are some initials that are nicely engraved inside the band and some numbers, possibly a date; cant quite make it out as the ring was in a damaged state when I retrieved it.

Or maybe it's like Lennon's number 9 dream; it's not meant to be understood.

"Eis" the only word I can make out and according to a Latin dictionary:

"Eis" is a form of the Latin personal and demonstrative pronoun.

The nominative forms are:

Is, Ea, Id (He, She, It)

and the Plural are:

Ei (Ii*), Eae, Ea (They (men), They (women), They (Things))

(*Ii is sometimes used instead of Ei in the plural masculine.)

"Eis" is either plural Dative, or Plural Ablative, and hence can mean many things:

By Them.
From Them.
With Them.
To Them.
or
From Them.

This particular form can mean many things since it is the same in every gender and it is used in multiple cases. Proper translation relies on surrounding context.

If this is latin, a language I studied at school and Uni, the only phrase I can think of is " Eis quos amo" meaning " for those that I love". Trouble is I can't read the second word, but the other three do seem to match up. I'll get my books out and see if I can work out more for you :icon_thumleft:
