Running errands last Thursday, I noted an older gentleman heading back to the front door of his (older) house from his mail box. I thought "what the heck" and turned around, parked, and knocked on his door to see if I could come back that afternoon and detect. He said sure.

So, I spent 2 1/2 hours on about a 30x40 foot section of his front/side yard with my XLT set on a custom "clean, deep coin" setting. Got 76 cents. Clad was two quarters, one dime, and two memorial cents. Got 14 wheats (1914,16,18,18,19,25,26,30,40,41,41,44,52D,and 53D) 1897 IH and 1905 IH.

The 1897, I put a small scratch on the "T" of cent and on the wreath. The soil was hard and dry. I use a cheap garden hand spade to dig grass plugs and I had just broken my previous one where the handle is welded to the scoop. So I was being cautious about trying to leverage up too large a hunk of dirt and one time and paid for it.

Also dug the usual key, pull tabs, odds and ends metal bits and the catholic medal. Really was not much junk. Nothing deeper than four inches, as I was mostly underneith some trees. Can't wait to get back. Hoping the rain predicted for tomorrow night gets here as promised, to soften the ground. Silver still waiting for me?

NICE...Yeah, I bet there is silver in your near future. You did great there and you can't beat it with nothing over 4 inches deep.

Hoosier,
Great finds! I bet you're happy you stopped to ask permission now. ;D
Love the IH's. If there is a scratch on one, it must be small, I don't see it.
Congrats to you,
MM

With all that, you'll find some silver. Good go, asking permission. The older folks, especially, seem more willing to offer it.

Nice injuns, Hoosier. They're my favorite, and so far, extinct in my area.

All in all a fantastic day for you. There's got to be a few silver coins in there...go get em!
